Clinical Embryology Programme Opens to International Students

One of Europe's most distinctive study programmes in clinical embryology is opening its doors to international students. From the academic year 2027/2028, the Faculty of Medicine at Masaryk University will offer its successful Embryology programme in English under the title Specialist for Clinical Embryology and Assisted Reproduction Technology.

The programme builds on the Czech-language curriculum launched in 2020. Since then, it has attracted exceptional interest and graduated two cohorts of students, most of whom now work as clinical embryologists in assisted reproduction centres.

The launch of the English-language programme responds to growing international demand for specialised education in clinical embryology. As reproductive medicine and assisted reproduction technologies continue to advance, the need for highly qualified clinical embryologists is increasing worldwide. At the same time, opportunities to obtain comprehensive university-level education in this field remain limited.

The programme combines a strong biomedical foundation with specialised training in reproductive medicine and laboratory embryology. Students gain both theoretical knowledge and practical skills through courses covering assisted reproduction technologies, reproductive genetics, quality management, ethics, psychology, and emerging healthcare technologies.

A key strength of the programme is its extensive practical training. Students develop their laboratory skills in specialised teaching facilities and learn directly from clinical embryologists, reproductive medicine specialists, geneticists, and researchers actively involved in the field. The curriculum also includes research activities that foster critical thinking and evidence-based decision-making.

The five-year full-time programme will welcome its first English-language cohort in autumn 2027, with a maximum capacity of 20 students per year. Through this programme, Masaryk University aims to educate a new generation of clinical embryologists who will contribute to the advancement of reproductive medicine and fertility care worldwide.
