Research interest

We are fascinated by fundamental aspects of developmental biology, which we then use to develop new approaches in regenerative medicine.
As a central model system in our research, we use continuously growing teeth. These teeth have an extraordinary capacity of regeneration and repair and serve as an excellent model for studying stem cell niche, differentiation processes or micropatterning of hard tissues.
We use state-of-the-art approaches to answer our research questions. This includes for example single-cell RNA sequencing, work with genetically modified organisms (lineage tracing, conditional knockouts, engineering of new genetically modified strains – in collaboration), advanced imaging including 3D confocal or light sheet microscopy, super-resolution microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, gene expression assays and many others.
